Here are some details on the study I am doing on the National Project for Cattle and Buffalo Breeding (NPCBB) - Impact Analysis regarding the terms of reference and the approach to the study.

Terms of Reference

  • Utilization of funds in conformity with the components sanctioned and deviation, if any
  • Physical verification of the infrastructure created
  • Evaluation of LN2 transport and distribution system strengthened
  • Benefits accrued through institutional restructuring, i.e., creation of SIA for production and supply of inputs

National Project for Cattle and Buffalo Breeding (NPCBB)

These days I am busy with an assignment of Govt. of India I got through NABCONS to conduct a study on National Project for Cattle and Buffalo Breeding (NPCBB part II) Impact Analysis for Maharashtra State, India.

The project has been implemented by Maharashtra Livestock Development Board, Akola. Out of 32 districts, 14 districts are selected for sample study from Maharashtra.

I’ll provide more details about it in next few posts as time permits.

Male Buffalo Calf Rearing in India – Project Cost at a Glance and Bank Incentives

To help you to understand the economics of industrial unit of  “Salvaging and rearing of male buffalo calves scheme”, I have prepared a summary of the project cost including essential items of investment to maximize the income from the sale of male buffalo calves with the latest information to my knowledge.

Note: The costs indicated below are just sample cost estimates.

A. Implementing period and Area of operation

The scheme will be implemented during the remaining XI plan period through out the country. As there are slaughter restrictions in some of the states, the local laws pertaining to this should be kept in mind while processing loan applications.

 

B. Eligibility

Farmers, individual entrepreneurs, NGOs, companies, NGOs, SHGs, JLGs, Cooperatives, etc. Preference to be given to SC/STs, women beneficiaries & for individual units. They should constitute at least 405 of the total beneficiaries.

 

C. Subsidy

Male Buffalo Calf Rearing in India - I

Few days back Govt. of India has announced a scheme aiming at promoting male buffalo calves rearing which has been named as “Salvaging & Rearing of male buffalo Calves Scheme”. The scheme has come in to operation with effect from 12 July, 2010. Budget provision for the scheme during 2010-2012 is Rs.121.62 Cr.

The department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying & Fisheries (DAHD&F), Ministry of Agriculture, GOI, is the focal department for operating the scheme. The sanction and release of subsidy will be managed by NABARD, and is subject to availability of funds and adherence of the instructions issued by DAHD&F, Govt. of India and NABARD from time to time.
