Govt. of India has announced continuation of a scheme named as “Dairy Entrepreneurship Development Scheme” (DEDS). The scheme has come in to operation with effect from 1 September 2010.

The planning commission GOI has approved the continuation of DEDS with an outlay of Rs.1400.00 crores during, 12th. Five Year plan.

Budget provision for the scheme during the year 2016-17 is Rs.140.00 crores (Rs.110.00 crores for Gen. Comp., Rs.17.00 crores for SC comp. & Rs.13.00 crores for NER plan) has been approved as per letter No.1-1/2009-DP, GOI, MOA, DAHD, New Delhi dated 11th. April, 2016.

The department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying & Fisheries (DAHD&F), Ministry of Agriculture, GOI, is the focal department for operating the scheme.

The sanction & release of subsidy will be managed by NABARD & is subject to availability of funds & adherence of the instructions issued by DAHD&F, GoI and NABARD from time to time.

Note: The components & Indicative Unit/Project cost that can be financed and pattern of assistance will be same as per last year 2015-16.

Objectives of the scheme
  • To promote setting up of modern dairy farms for production of clean milk
  • To encourage heifer calf rearing thereby conserve good breeding stock
  • To bring structural changes in the unorganized sector so that initial processing of milk can be taken up at the village level itself.
  • To bring about up gradation of quality and traditional technology to handle milk on a commercial scale
  • To generate self employment and provide infrastructure mainly for unorganized sector.

National Project for Cattle and Buffalo Breeding (NPCBB): Terms of Reference and Approach to the Study

Here are some details on the study I am doing on the National Project for Cattle and Buffalo Breeding (NPCBB) - Impact Analysis regarding the terms of reference and the approach to the study.

Terms of Reference

  • Utilization of funds in conformity with the components sanctioned and deviation, if any
  • Physical verification of the infrastructure created
  • Evaluation of LN2 transport and distribution system strengthened
  • Benefits accrued through institutional restructuring, i.e., creation of SIA for production and supply of inputs

National Project for Cattle and Buffalo Breeding (NPCBB)

These days I am busy with an assignment of Govt. of India I got through NABCONS to conduct a study on National Project for Cattle and Buffalo Breeding (NPCBB part II) Impact Analysis for Maharashtra State, India.

The project has been implemented by Maharashtra Livestock Development Board, Akola. Out of 32 districts, 14 districts are selected for sample study from Maharashtra.

Introduction

With the diversification and modernisation of agricultural practices, there is a need to augment support and extension services for agriculture. For this purpose, a scheme for setting up agriclinics and agribusiness centres by agriculture & allied subjects graduates has been launched by Gov. of India with the support of NABARD. These centres will provide a package of input facilities, consultancy and other services. They will strengthen transfer of technology and extension services and also provide self employment opportunities to technically trained persons.

Dairy Farming in India – Project Cost at a Glance and Banking Norms

To help you understand the economics of dairy farming, I have prepared a summary of the project cost including essential items of investment to maximize the income from the dairy farm with the latest information to my knowledge. The costs indicated below are for a sample project only.

The breeds of the milch animal considered in this cost estimate are graded Murrah buffaloes, Murrah buffaloes, and cross breed cows with an average yield of 10 liters milk per day per animal (LMPDA) for 300 days of lactation cycle & 100 days of dry period.

A. Implementing period and Area of operation

The scheme will be implemented during the remaining XI plan period through out the country with out restrictions applicable to Operation Flood areas for financing of milch animals. The scheme will come into effect from 1 September 2010.

The scheme has come in to operation with effect from 1 September 2010. Budget provision for the scheme during 2010–11 is Rs.32.40 Crore. The department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries (DAHDF), Ministry of Agriculture, GOI, is the focal department for operating the scheme. The sanction and release of subsidy will be managed by NABARD and is subject to availability of funds and adherence of the instructions issued by DAHDF, Government of India and NABARD from time to time.
